Quote Detail provides you with a high-level summary of metrics for a specific security. Included in the Quote Detail tool:

  • Key price metrics: You’ll find key price data such as bid, ask, open, high, low, close, and volume, as well as various implied volatility (IV) metrics including IV Rank, IV Change, and IV Change.

Clicking on the Bid or Ask prices will open the trade ticket prepopulated as a sell order (upon clicking the bid price), or as a buy order (upon clicking the ask price). To modify the order quantity defaulting to appear on the order ticket, navigate to the Settings cog wheel button on the upper right corner of the platform, then Trade Quantities. Along with the ability to customize the quantity, you also may set the default order size increment value and the price (At Market, With Market, Mid Market).

  • Fundamentals: Find vital information needed to perform fundamental analysis including ETB/HTB label, Sector, Market Cap, and P/E ratio. To access comprehensive fundamental data, navigate into the Tools dropdown menu on the upper left navigational bar, then Launch E*TRADE website.
  • Price Chart: View an interactive graph of a security's price movement, with available aggregation periods of 5 Days, 1 Month, 3 Months, and 1 Year. Use the -/+ buttons or mouse scroll wheel to manually zoom in and out of the chart.
  • News: Quickly peruse headlines from over 25 different sources related to the security, sortable by time or relevance. Click on any headline to easily navigate to a browser to view the full article.
  • Time And Sales: Review real-time or historical display of recently traded prices, traded size, and the Exchange on which the trade occurred.
  • Social Sentiment1: Provides insight into sentiment expressed on social media platforms, taking into account the mood of posts where the security or division has been mentioned, then assigning a Buzz Score and Normalized Buzz Volume.

    • Buzz Score: a sentiment intensity level of a security deviating from its normal sentiment over a defined look-back period, where levels greater than 2.0 or less than -2.0 indicate significant positive or negative sentiment states.
    • Normalized Buzz Volume: the sentiment volume level of a security deviating from its normal sentiment volume over a defined look back period. A significant change in Buzz Volume over time is a good indicator of unusual social media commentary on a stock.
  • Depth View: View current information on the size, bid price and ask price for orders, along with the Exchange where these are occurring.

To populate a chart, input the desired symbol into the entry field on the upper left corner of the tool, or select from the list of your recently viewed symbols. To enable trading directly from a chart, click on the double arrow button on the upper right corner.

  • Time Frame: A time chart will be the default type for each newly opened chart, which is constructed by plotting a new bar upon the completion of a certain time period. A chart with a span of a single day is reflecting bars that represent the low, high, open, and close values across the course of that day.

As an example, 1-day, 1-minute time frame chart will show one day's worth of data, with candles aggregated on a one minute basis. Use the -/+ buttons located at the bottom center of the chart to zoom in or out of the time frame, or use your mouse scroll wheel to control the zoom.

  • Display

    • Candle Chart: consists of candle-shaped bars, where the candle top and bottom indicate the high and low prices during the aggregation period, and the lower and upper of the candle wick indicate the open and close prices
    • Bar Chart: shows aggregated data as a vertical line with two horizontal dashes. The bottom of the line indicates the low price, the top of the line indicates the high price, left-side dash indicates the open and right-side dash indicates the close prices
    • Line Chart: does not reflect information on open, high, or low prices, but instead plots adjacent closing prices connected as a contiguous line
    • Mountain: similar to a line chart, reflecting closing prices colored between the current close price and zero
    • Heikin Ashi: a candle chart type, but the open, close, high, and low prices are based on midpoints of current and previous candles
  • Drawing Tools: Access 30+ drawing tools from the pencil icon button located on the upper left corner, available in a list view as well as icon grid view. List view will include the drawing type name organized alphabetically, and also will allow you to favorite selected types and have those shifted to the top of the list.
  • Chart Studies: 120+ predefined technical indicators are available from the Studies header located on the upper right corner of the chart. This Library consists of two types of technical indicators: studies and strategies. Studies are mathematical values plotted upon bars on a chart to provide visualization about price trends, while strategies are sets of criteria which often combine multiple chart studies to identify various types of events and opportunities.

To customize applied drawings, hover your mouse over the drawing to activate it and right click, then select Edit Settings. You can personalize colors as well as type and thickness of the drawing line/outline. Also accessible from the right click menu: Clone Drawing (duplicates the exact drawing and places it on the chart), Layer Management (controls the order in which drawings appear over each other), and Delete (remove the drawing from the chart).

Available time spans can be selected from buttons above the chart, available in daily, monthly, yearly, and all-time increments. The candle aggregation period is selected from the Frequency dropdown menu to the right of the time span buttons, with aggregation periods ranging from minute to daily, weekly, and monthly.

To add extended session trading hours to the chart, click on the cog wheel icon on the upper right. Dividends (D), earnings (E), splits (S), and trade history can be noted as icons on a chart via the Events dropdown menu. Custom chart setups can be saved from the Views button -- input a name and hit Save. To apply a custom view to charts, return to the Views button and select from the Saved Views list.

Clicking on Studies will display an alphabetical listing of all studies and strategies available, or manually input a name into the top entry field to search and locate a specific type. To add a study to a chart, click on its name. Hover over any name and from the question mark icon you will access a definition for each. A star icon is located on the left side of each line item, used to denote favorites.

Refer to Active Studies at the top of the menu to confirm which you have applied to the chart and their input values being used. To modify the input values or customize the appearance of the study or strategy, click on its name from the Active Studies list.

You can view the option chain and place an option trade from this tools. The option chain will list all available option series and contracts for a given security. To begin, input a symbol into the entry field on the upper left corner of the tool, or use the Symbol Linking button to populate a symbol being viewed in other linked tools.

The default organization of the option chain will display calls on the left side, puts on the right, with available strikes in the middle. Above the option chain there will be a selectable listing of various expiration series, which are the contract expirations that are currently tradeable. Click on the desired series to add it to your option chain. You can choose to view the option chain as strategies (straddle, strangle, vertical, and more) by selecting the desired spread type from the Call/Put dropdown menu displayed above the option chain.

Refer to the Strikes dropdown menu to select how many strikes you wish to display on the option chain, as well as the Near box to view strikes surrounding a selected price. To customize the column headers shown on the option chain, select the slider bar Menu button on the upper left corner of the tool, then Select Columns. You can search for a specific item, or you can expand the Market and Greeks section and manually review the list. To add to your current set, click the grey + button to the left of the name.

Also within Menu, you can select to show IV Constellation along with non-standard options. Implied Volatility Constellation plots at-the-money implied volatility by expiration versus the 30 day rolling average, and displays the results as a percentage.

You can click on any symbol name or row within the option chain and quickly access the following tools from the Quick Action menu: Quote, Chart, Watch List, Alert, Earnings, along with access to the Order Ticket. Another way to setup a trade would be to click on either the Bid or Ask prices displayed on the chain. Clicking on the Ask price will prepopulate a buy order ticket, and clicking on the Bid price will prepopulate a sell order ticket.

The Trade Tape tool displays a live stream of options trades, giving you the ability to analyze trading activity and potentially help discover trading opportunities. By default, the day's option trade history will be displayed chronologically, with the most recent trades falling at the top of the tool. If you wish to display in an alternate way, click on any column header to sort by that according criteria.

By clicking on the slider bar Menu button on the upper right corner then on Select Columns, you can select which of the following data points you wish to view: Option, Quantity, Trade Price,  IV Trade %, Trade Delta, and U/L at Trade (meaning the price of the underlying security at the time of the option trade), Market at Trade, Trade IV% Change, and Traded (meaning if the option trade fell on the bid price, on the ask price, or between). You can rearrange the column headers from the Select Columns menu, or you can drag and drop the headers at the top of the list.

Note that each option trade is labeled with a grey/green/red bar at the far-left side – grey indicating the trade fell between the bid and ask prices; green indicating the trade fell at or above the ask price; red indicating the trade fell on or below the bid price.

Easily access key platform features with minimal clicks via the Quick Action menu, accessed by clicking on any value displayed on a trade line item. From here, you can access additional quotes, charts, alerts, watch list, and earnings.

Easily navigate to the order ticket to proceed with a trade via the Quick Action menu, or by clicking directly on the specific trade listed in the Option column. The Order Ticket will appear, prepopulated with the correlating type of option (call/put), strike price, and option expiration series.

The TradeLab tool allows you to build and analyze custom option strategies along with their associated risk/reward at expiration values, interactive risk profile, and a dynamic Greeks analysis.

Click the Build Strategy button to get started, input the trade (which may be stock, option, or a combination of the two) you are considering, and select Save Strategy.  The following will be displayed:

  • Risk Profile: Broken into both quantitative and visual metrics, you will find the max profit/loss and risk/reward probabilities associated with your selected strategy. Maximum profit/loss displays do not include dividends, assume no early exercise, and depict strategy risk only up until the nearest option expiration date in the strategy. Risk profiles can change dramatically as a result of option exercise and assignment, particularly when the quantity exercised or assigned differs across strategy legs and/or results in an unanticipated position in the underlying security. Please note that assignment of in-the-money short legs and non-assignment of out-of-the-money short legs of complex options strategies are not guaranteed and that early or partial exercises and assignments of complex options positions, including the potential assignment of out of the money legs of complex options strategies may expose you to market and carry risk greater than the displayed maximum loss estimate, including losses in excess of your original investment.
  • Risk Profile Graph: Sometimes referred to as a "risk curve," a risk profile graph is an interactive display of the range of profit or loss possibilities for a trade. The horizontal axis shows the price of an underlying security at expiration, while the vertical axis shows potential profit or loss values. This graph provides an easy way to understand and visualize the effects of what may happen to a position based on the underlying price.

The dotted vertical line is indicating the strike price, the thick red/green line is the profit/loss today, and the thin red/green line is the profit/loss on the expiration date.

  • Spectral Map: An analysis and visual display of percent market gain, delta, gamma, or theta from now until expiration can be found on the spectral map. Refer to the dropdown menus on the upper left corner of the map to select which type of analysis should be performed, as well as IV forecast logic. The future side of the map allows you to horizontally scroll through a timeline, while you can vertically scroll through prices of the underlying security. While scrolling, displayed market gain dollar value and percents adjust accordingly.

While you move through various price and time scenarios, you'll notice the projected, theoretical market gains update, as will the Spectral Slice.

  • In the Greek Risk Metrics section, you can select to view the what-if metrics as their Greek values (Delta, Gamma, Theta, Vega, Rho). Selecting English will break down the meanings behind each specific Greek value. For example, as opposed to labeling a value as simply "delta," selecting the display as Plain English will instead label the value as "price sensitivity."

If the trade fits your risk profile and you’d like to enter an order, click Trade from TradeLab.

The Market Depth tool provides a streaming view of real-time executions, as well as bid and offer prices at all levels. This information may provide the data that helps assess the current supply and demand as well as potential trends. To use the tool, you will need a subscription to Level II Market Data -- to find more information about your Market Data subscription, please visit the Subscription Center.

Via the Quote Montage menu on the upper right corner of the tool, you can select which Exchange books you wish to be included in the stream. Available are the ARCA Book, NASDAQ Book, NYSE OpenBook, ARCA and NASDAQ Books, or all combined.

The left side of the tool (indicated in green) is reflecting a stream of bid prices, originating Exchange, and the size associated with the bid price. The right side of the tool (indicated in red) is the ask prices, exchange, and size associated with each ask price. The top four prices in the book  are colored in different shades of purple, and if the same price is occurring at different exchanges, they will be colored in the same purple shade.

On the upper right corner of the tool is the slider bar Menu icon, where you can enable various types of visual data displays:

  • Depth Mountain Chart: interactive visualization of reported bid/ask price plotted along X axis, and its according size plotted on the Y axis. This reads chronologically from the middle of the display outwards, with bid prices on the left and ask prices on the right. Hover any mountain peak to view detail on the specific price and size
  • Depth Summary: whereas Market Depth has highlighted the top four amount of Exchanges who currently have the same top four bid/ask prices in their Books, along with the aggregate total of size at that price
  • Depth Bar Chart: displays the Depth Summary in a visual, bar chart format
  • Trade Ticker: revealing trade execution prices and associated sizes
  • Momentum Bar: trade executions displayed in a candle format. A solid green candle indicates if the trade filled at an uptick in price; hollow green candle indicates a fill at the same price as the immediately preceding uptick fill. A solid red candle indicates if the trade filled at a downtick in price; hollow red candle indicates a fill at the same price as the immediately preceding downtick fill

From the Menu you can also enable a condensed Order Ticket to remain at the bottom of the tool, allowing you to quickly take action and not need to leave the tool to send an order to the market.

The StrategySEEK tool is designed to help you identify potential option strategies based on your personal market outlook. Upon opening, you will be prompted to choose your market forecast – bullish, bearish, volatile or neutral. The included descriptions of each market outlook category may assist you in defining what you believe the forecast to be.

After selecting you market outlook, you'll be prompted to input an investment amount, target price of the selected underlying, expected volatility, and target date; then clarify specific option strategies of interest.

Once all defining criteria has been input, this tool will provide a list of potential strategies that match your outlook, sorted by Maximum Gain, Maximum Loss, Estimated Profit/Loss, and Position Requirements. To investigate any listed strategy further, select it from the results list to view a visual profit and loss graph.

You may adjust any or all criteria points for your market forecast at any time to view further strategies by selecting the Update Strategies button.

The Quick Trade tool provides direct access to buy or sell stock from a streamlined order ticket. If you would like the ability to move in and out of positions quickly, or frequently place trades at market price, this streamlined and customizable tool may be a preferred option to the standard order ticket. By ticking the Auto Send box located on the bottom right corner, you can bypass the Order Preview screen and instead send the order immediately to market. Please note, the Order Preview screen reflects applicable commissions and fees, the credit you would receive or debit you would spend, along with the resulting cash and margin buying power values should the order fill. If you opt out of the preview screen, you will not see these projected values.

You can easily select which account or allocation group is associated with the Quick Trade tool by clicking on the Account dropdown menu on the upper left corner of the tool window. By clicking on the Menu slider icon on the upper right corner of the tool, you can customize the Quick Trade configuration for default order sizes; you can input four custom quantities, allowing you to bypass manually inputting a quantity for each order and instead simply click on the pre-customized order size buttons. Once established, these default quantities will appear above the Buy Market and Sell Market buttons.

The Futures Ladder tool is a stream of bid, ask, and volume data for a selected futures symbol that is placed on a moving vertical display of futures prices, and can facilitate rapid order setup. To use the tool, you will need a futures-enabled account -- visit our Support Center for more information on requirements and enablement.

Note that futures products require a / preceding the symbol in the symbol entry field on the upper left. From the menu that appears after inputting /symbol, select the desired futures expiration series.  Prices for futures contracts are listed in the middle of the ladder, with the current price highlighted in red, and the following columns displayed:

  • Sell Orders: your working sell orders at that price level
  • Bid Size: depth of the bid market on the indicated price level
  • Ask Size: depth of the ask market on the indicated price level

You can scroll upward on the ladder to view the depth at higher prices, and scroll downward to view the depth at lower prices. To quickly center the ladder at the current price, select the bullseye button, located directly above the Price column.

To establish your default order sizes, refer to the Quantity box on the upper left corner of the tool and either manually input the desired size, scroll with the - and + buttons, or select from the pre-selected sizes. Above the ladder, you will find the following buttons:

  • Buy Market: adds a buying order for the viewed symbol at the market price
  • Sell Market:  adds a selling order for the viewed symbol at the market price

Tick the Auto Send box on the upper right corner of the ladder to facilitate rapid setup and bypass the Order Preview screen, which will detail commission & fees associated with the order, resulting cash and margin buying power values, and more.

  • Cancel: All, Buys, Sells:  correspondingly cancel all working orders, all buy orders, and all sell orders
  • Reverse: reverse your current position on the viewed symbol.  Meaning, if you have a position of +5 on the viewed symbol, a Reverse order will sell 10 contracts, taking your position to -5
  • Flatten: close any open position for the viewed symbol and cancel all working orders

You can hover over a value in the Bid or Ask columns that correspond with the price you want to use as your limit, then click to proceed with the order. To access the full Order Ticket, click on either the Bid or Ask prices listed on the top left corner of the tool.

Along the top of the tool you will find a summary of your positions, including important details of your current position such as amount of orders you've had during the trading day and your current position.

By default, the symbol input field will be empty, and the results list displays more than 50 recent news items not specific to any specific symbol. The headline list will appear in reverse chronological order, with the newest story appearing at the top of the list.

Hovering over a headline will reveal further information on the story; click on any item in the headline list to be taken automatically to a new browser window to read the full story. The High/Low Ticker tool streams both intraday and 52-week Highs and Lows for selected securities.  Quickly access other platform tools by right clicking on a data point -- this allows you to add the security to a particular tool, send the symbol to an existing Symbol Link, or access the order ticket to place a trade.

At the top of the screen, you will see the Market Balance Bar, which displays the percentage of lows (indicated in red) and new highs (indicated in green) that have been reached in the past five minutes (top bar), past minute (middle bar), and past 30 seconds (bottom bar). This provides a visual display of the numerical data, allowing you to easily view if more securities are reaching new highs or new lows by comparing the length of ear bar against that of the same time frame.

The Earnings tool incorporates data, including historical and current options pricing information to calculate the implied move (an estimate of how much a stock's price will change over a specific time period) of an underlying security, post-earnings events.

Upon inputting a symbol, select the desired timeframe for analysis from the dropdown menu.  You will find two tabs:

  • Chart: Per earnings event within the specific time frame. Purple bars represent the implied move percentage range, red bars represent if the actual move was negative, and green bars represent a positive earnings move. The purple dotted line indicates the average implied move percentage range, and the yellow dotted line indicates the average actual move percentage.
  • Table: Earnings events, along with estimated earnings per share value as estimated and actual, and price of the underlying stock before and after the earnings event

The tool will default to a time range of 30 days, but along the top bar of the window you can select to view today, yesterday, last 3, 5, or 10 days, or select Range to input a custom beginning and ending date.

The following data will be shown for each order placed during the selected time range: symbol, order description, status, account the order was placed from, fill price, time the order was closed (meaning filled, expired, cancelled, or rejected).

From the Actions header, you can easily copy a closed or open order, and also cancel or modify an open order. Column headers can be rearranged by clicking and dragging to the desired place on the header bar. Column headers can also be clicked on to sort the results chronologically or alphabetically.

By clicking the filter icon on the upper right corner of the window, input a specific symbol then click Apply to yield results only for the specified symbol, or choose to view specific types of the following order statuses: open, filled, saved, canceled, rejected, expired, queued.  Use the download button on the upper right corner of the tool in order to export and save your order history locally to your computer as a .CSV file type.

The lower part of the window will display gains or losses, which are color coded to quickly indicate if the according values are up (green) or down (red).

The Net Outstanding Calls section is expandable and will reflect any applicable calls associated with the account, as well as the amount due to meet the call.

When choosing to view All Accounts (or a group of accounts), a condensed display of clarifying details and certain balances will be reflected for all the accounts in the group: first and last name of the account holder, live account value, cash available to withdraw, cash buying power, margin buying power, today's trading gain as well as year to date trading gain. Click on a value in any account line to have a pop-up display of the full balance detail screen to review the according comprehensive values.

Accessible from the Tools menu, the Performance tool will display a bar graph visualization representing a trading gain or loss over a specified time range.

From a dropdown menu on the upper left corner of the tool, you can select from a time range of Today only, Month-to-Date, and Year-to-Date. With a time range selected, you will find the account's total gain listed in a dollar value on the upper left corner, with a visualization below.

The data display is representing both a consolidated portfolio view of performance, along with a breakdown on a per-symbol basis.

Please note, the gain or loss values displayed may differ from taxable gains. This is due to trading gain/loss being calculated using current or liquidation value along with the closing price from the day prior (or the beginning of the specified time range).

The History tool can be used to view transaction activity for your account, which includes cash movement in addition to trading activity.  History can be added to a Power E*TRADE Pro workspace via the Tools menu on the left corner of the upper menu bar, and will appear as a filterable and exportable data table.

The default time range to display is today's history, but also accessible from the upper bar in the tool is the ability to select a time range, spanning from today to the last 30 days; you also can select Range to input a custom date range.  Once a time range is selected, the table will display vital information regarding each transaction which has occurred, such as date, symbol, price, fees, order ID, and more.

To filter the type of transaction history displayed, click on the Filter icon located on the upper right corner of the tool. From here, you can input a specific symbol, and select from the following transaction types: withdrawals, deposits, trades, or all transaction categories.

To download your transaction history to an Excel .csv file, select the down arrow icon button located on the upper right corner of the tool, input a file name, then Save.

Widgets are smaller, streamlined versions of full tools that allow you to keep an eye on certain key data without taking up too much space in the workspace or on the screen. To add a widget to your workspace, navigate to the Tools dropdown menu on the upper left corner of the platform.
